Overflow Parking Lot for 30 plus cars across from the trailhead for events

The first 3 phases consisting of the trail head, picnic area and 7 1/2 miles of trail, part asphalt, part packed gravel is now open.  This has been a long time coming, approximately 8 years.  The Kings Mountain Gateway Trails, Inc. received several generous grants along with community support, foundations, City and County and State investments, and 2 minning companies, and two other private landowners have all joined the Gateway Trails group to make this happen.  Martin Marietta Minning Company provided the land for the trailhead and Rockwood Lithium previously Chemetall Foote Corporation provided a very large part of the 2nd & 3rd phases and the actual trail including a private bridge across Hwy. I-85 to the south of Kings Mountain.  The City of Kings Mountain built the beautiful restrooms and office facility and volunteers headed up by Ronnie Whetstine of W & W Contractors built the picnic shelter.  The Kings Mountain Gateway Trails group has worked very hard on all aspects of this wonderful project that is more that just a trail, it is a park with picnic grounds, restrooms, water fountain, parking and drop off area, & is handicapp accessible.

Brand new overflow parking lot for 30 plus cars 2018

The Gateway Trail has partnered with the city of Kings Mountain to build a brand new parking area across from the existing parking lot at the trailhead on Battleground Avenue.  This area will also have some picnic tables and beautiful landscaping.  Be careful crossing the street to the trail...this overflow parking area is a much needed facility especially for events at the trail!
